Shirley Ann Gemetro

Winsted:  Shirley Ann Gemetro, 89, passed away suddenly on Monday, February 22, 2016, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington.  She was the wife of the late William M. Gemetro, Sr. who died in 2000.  Born in Winsted, March 8, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore "Toto" and Libra (Lalli) Lovetere and had lived here all of her life.  Prior to her retirement, she had worked as the head cook in the school lunch program for many years and previously had worked at Son-Chief Electric.  She was a long time member of the Pond Hill Auxiliary and the Italian American Women's Club.  Shirley had spent most of her life in and around all the activity at Highland Lake.  She is survived by her four children, William Gemetro, Jr. and his wife Gayle, Jerry  Gemetro and his wife Robin, Donna Wills and Cynthia Cassotto and her husband Robert all of Winsted; seven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.  She was predeceased by two brothers, Salvatore Lovetere and Carl Lovetere.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 26, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Church.  Burial will be in St. Joseph new Cemetery in the spring.  Friends may call at the Maloney Funeral Home 55 Walnut Street, Winsted on Thursday, 5-8 PM.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony School 31 Oak Street, Winsted, CT 06098, or The Little Guild of St. Francis, 285 Sharon Goshen Tpk, Cornwall, CT 06753.
