Kenneth S. Ryan

Winsted:  Kenneth S. Ryan, 91, passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 following a lengthy illness.  He was the husband of the late Marguerite (Angarano) Ryan who died in 2006.  Born in Winsted, February 27, 1924, he was the son of the late William and Emma (Hotchkiss) Ryan and had lived here all of his life.  Ken was a graduate of The Gilbert School, Class of 1941 and received his Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from UConn.  He was an Army-Air Corps veteran of WW II having served with the 24th bombardier group.  He also served during the Korean War.  Ken was a very patriotic man who stayed in the Air Force Reserves, retiring after 30 years, as a Major.  He was a loving husband and father and always willing to help someone in need. In civilian life, he was a licensed land surveyor, and civil engineer retiring from O&G Industries in 1987, after 30 years of service.  His favorite hobby was skiing and he enjoyed many happy times in his second home near Stratton Mountain, VT.  He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia (Cindy) and husband John Reznick of Torrington and several nieces & nephews.  He was predeceased by two brothers, Edwin Ryan and William Ryan and a sister, Janet Warland.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2:00 PM at the Maloney Funeral Home 55 Walnut Street.  Burial with full military honors will be in the spring.  Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VFW Post 296, 114 Colebrook River Road, Winsted, CT 06098.  To leave an online condolence, please visit www.maloneyfuneral.com.
