Virginia C. Hughes, 95, passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at her home. She was preceded by her husband, Warren G. Hughes.
Born in Epping, New Hampshire February 18,1926 she was the daughter of Arthur F. Carpenter and Marjorie C. Knox and had lived in Winsted for the last 55 years. Virginia retired from Customer Service at Waring and the Winsted Public Schools. She was an antique dealer and avid thrifter who took great pride in the deals she and Warren found over their 67 years together. Virginia is survived by 4 children, Valerie Cannon of Felton, DE; Gregory Hughes (Kitty) of Richmond, Virginia; Reverend Calvin Hughes (Marilyn) of Cuba City, WI; Reverend Collin Hughes (Barbara) of Oshkosh, WI; as well as 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Virginia enjoyed and appreciated many of her friends and neighbors visits. Virginia especially cherished her visits from Thomas Kelly, son-in-law, who faithfully visited with her and watched over her for years. Heidi Merz and Jerry Hamilton were wonderful friends who visited often also. Virginia’s family is grateful for the daily care that Marie Kuenn provided to her so that she could remain in her home over the last year and a half. Virginia was preceded by 2 brothers, Henry Fred Knox and Gordon LaFramboise and one sister, Barbara Sabasteanski. Virginia was an excellent cook and seamstress. She enjoyed completing difficult crossword puzzles, playing Bingo at the Senior Center, visiting with special friends who would regularly stop by for coffee on the front porch. Visitation will be at Maloney Funeral Home on Friday, June 25th from 4-6 pm and Graveside Services at Forest View Cemetery in Winsted at 11 am on Saturday, June 26th.2021
