Terence “Terry” Edward Brennan passed away on Easter Sunday, April 17th, 2022. Born on September 25th, 1957, Terry was the son of Edward Brennan and Marjorie Sylvester Brennan. He was a native of Winsted, CT and attended The Gilbert School, leaving in 1974 to enter the US Naval service. During the Vietnam/Cold War era, he served in the United States Navy from 1974 to 1978 aboard the Tecumseh (USSBN-628), where he was well known for his comic relief, and witty humor; making daily duties enjoyable for his fellow submariners.
He was honorably discharged from the Navy due to a devastating injury, and subsequently spent the rest of his life in proud service to the veteran’s community. Many local, regional, and countrywide veterans will remember Terry as a powerful advocate in his role as the Connecticut Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Specialist and Veterans Employment Representative through the CT Department of Labor. In 2003, Terry was appointed to the position of State Veterans Coordinator. In 2005, the agency established the Connecticut Department of Labor Office for Veterans Workforce Development, naming Terry as its Director; a position he proudly held until his retirement in 2018. Terry was active in Democratic party politics, and was well known for his willingness to engage in spirited debate.
Although short lived, during his retirement Terry was passionate about cooking, love of music, lighthouses, dogs Bonnie & Clyde, cat Raymond, caring for his family, vacations to Cape Cod, and spending time with his many close friends. He will be sorely missed by all those who knew, and were touched, by his generosity, charity, compassion, and philanthropy.
In addition to his mother, Marjorie (Teddy), he is survived by his husband, Gregory Midura, a brother Joseph Brennan, and Joseph’s wife Jennifer Scrocca of Armonk, NY. He also leaves behind three nieces Riley, Miranda, and Maeli, along with many beloved close friends. He was preceded in death by his sister Sabrina Brennan in 2018, and father Edward Brennan in 2017.
A celebration of life will take place on Friday, May 6th, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 296, 114 Colebrook River Road in Winsted, CT from 5PM to 9PM. All are invited to join in celebrating the life of Terry.
To honor Terry with the reverence and dignity he deserves, a military honors graveside service burial will take place in Forest View Cemetery on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at 10:00 am. Following with committal services by Reverend Gary Midura.
In lieu of flowers, Terry's wish that all donations in his name be made to FISH (Friends in Service to Humanity) of NWCT 332 S. Main St. Torrington, CT 06790 (https://www.fishnwct.org/).
