Winsted: Robert James Plante, 77, died peacefully in his sleep on January 13, 2022. Born in Hartford, CT, he was the beloved son of the late E. Thomas and Julia (Schenetsky) Plante and had lived all of his life in the Winsted area. Bobby was a fixture on Smith Hill and later, in downtown Winsted. He had worked for Engineered Wire and Cable, drove his pickup around town and was a regular at his favorite, ABC Pizza. Bobby loved to play with and collect toy trains, doing jig saw puzzles and fishing at Raleigh Pond with his nieces and nephews. He never forgot a thing and was known as a storyteller. He also enjoyed watching his favorite TV show, "The Wild Wild West." In his later years he would walk around the streets of Winsted and visit his numerous friends and business owners. His survivors include numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister Clynthia J. DeMartino and brother E. Thomas Plante, Jr. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Church in Winsted. Burial will follow in St. Joseph new Cemetery. Friends may call at the Maloney Funeral Home 55 Walnut Street, Winsted, from 9:30 - 10:30 AM prior to Mass.
