Mildred Petrunti Obituary

Winsted, Mildred June Petrunti, 86, died on Sunday, January 16, 2022, surrounded by her loving family, at The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington, following a lengthy illness.  She was the wife of the late Louis A. Petrunti who died in 2013.  Born in Winsted, on June 13, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Mildred (Bosworth) Buzinsky and lived in Winsted most all her life.  Millie attended school in Winsted and was in The Gilbert School class of 1953.  She held various jobs after her marriage to Louis, along with selling Avon and working at the Dairy Mart. The job she held for 10 years and loved the most was her position as Special Education Teacher’s Assistant in the Winchester Public Schools. She would later travel the state with her husband, who was a real estate broker, inspector, and appraiser at the time of their retirement. She sang in the Connecticut Yankee Chorale for many years and was a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church and Choir. Millie and Louie retired to Lake Worth Florida for twenty years before returning to Winsted to be closer to family. While living in Lake Worth Millie made many new friends, traveled the state, and sang in the local Catholic Church choir.   Millie was a talented artist, making many stained-glass pieces including jewelry boxes, which she was proud to give as gifts. Her talents also included sewing, crocheting, gardening, cooking, and baking, especially making focaccia and Italian cookies for family events.  She was an avid Jeopardy fan, watching it from its inception in 1964.  She also enjoyed many camping trips with her cousins and opening her home to all her family and friends. She loved happy faces. Millie is survived by her children, Rocco "Rock" Petrunti of Palo Alto, CA, Roxanne and Cherylanne Petrunti both of Malden, MA, and Luanne Petrunti Pinkham of Winsted; two brothers, Charles (Tina) Buzinsky of Wallingford, Vincent Buzinsky of Winsted; two sisters, Lillian (Paul) Toller of South Meriden, Frances Pace of Champaign IL and two grandchildren, Heather Pinkham McDonald and Jeremy Linwood Pinkham and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a sister, Sandra Richard.  A Celebration of Life and funeral mass will be celebrated for Mildred this summer, June 4, 2022, at 10:00 AM, at St. Joseph Church in Winsted.  Burial will be private.  If anyone wants to share some memories of Mildred, please post them on our tribute wall.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Foothills Visiting Nurse and Home Care, Inc. 32 Union Street, Winsted, CT 06098.   The family would like to express their deep appreciation and gratitude to the staff and doctors at the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, the staff at Torrington Health and Rehabilitation Center, Litchfield Woods, Apple Rehab, the Foothills VNA and Home Care, Inc., and Dr. Roy Hitt for the exceptional, compassionate and personal care they provided to Mildred throughout her illness.
