Kenneth Fracasso Obituary

The Fracasso family, friends and indeed the entire town of Winsted has lost one of its most devoted supporters. Surrounded by his loving family and after a long and valiant battle Kenneth J. Fracasso passed from this life on October 23, 2021 at Yale- New Haven Hospital.

As a lifelong Winsted resident Ken was a former Mayor of Winsted and a Lieutenant of Aerial Ladder (Tower) Company one. He served as a board member of both Saint Anthony School and St. Joseph Church in addition to being a member of the Winsted Elks. Ken was an extraordinarily giving person who impacted countless people throughout his lifetime and will be remembered for his can-do spirit and exceptional generosity.

A graduate of The Gilbert School class of 1975 Ken was a self-made businessman, starting his own company with a single truck in the 1980’s. K.J. Fracasso Industries grew into a thriving regional operation throughout New England and beyond.

Ken had a wide range of close friends. He enjoyed sports, including the New York Yankees, UCONN and especially his son Michael’s high school football games. A “spirited” 9-5 card game was always a special event ! He and his family enjoyed many travel adventures together, and he reveled in watching his children achieve their goals. A memorable trip to Italy with siblings and cousins culminated in a by-chance meeting with family relatives which continued at their home in Chiampo, Italy. Ken enthusiastically referred to this day as “ the best day of the trip “.

Ken is survived by his lovingly devoted wife Susan (Welz) and their children Sara and Michael of Winsted and Jared Romaniello (Chelsea) of Vancouver WA and grandchildren Gianni and Mila Romaniello. Additionally he is survived by three sisters, Kim McLaughlin, Lorie (Rodd) Ruland, Kara (David) Normand, a brother Steven (Martha) Fracasso and many nieces and nephews. Ken was predeceased by his parents Anthony and Kathleen (Inger) Fracasso.

A ceremony of Christian Burial will be held at St Joseph Church at 11am on Thursday October 28 with interment to follow at Winchester Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St Joseph’s Church. Please consider being an organ donor.
