Winsted: Joseph Alfred Forster, 81, died suddenly on Monday, July 11, 2022. He was the husband of Linda (Newfield) Forster. Born in Brooklyn, NY, November 7, 1940, he was the son of the late Alfred and Ann (Krouppa) Forster. They moved to Winsted when Joe was just a youngster. Joe attended local schools and was a graduate of The Gilbert School, class of 1961. After school, he enlisted in the Marines. The next four years were spent at Parris Island. He had achieved the good conduct medal and the rifle sharpshooter and pistol sharpshooter badges. After the service, he went home and eventually was hired by the Town of Winchester for duty on the police force, a position he held for the next 30 years. Joe was a former member of the Elks. He loved German Shepherds. His favorite was “Ranger”. He also enjoyed Kayaking at Highland Lake and Burr Pond. He was very good at carpentry, doing projects like his own deck and floors. He enjoyed walking around town, talking to friends and strangers alike. In addition to his loving wife of 50 years, his survivors include two brothers, Eugene (Carol) Forster of Winsted and Robert (Sylvia) Forster of AZ; a brother-in-law, Norman Newfield of Winsted and several nieces and nephews. Private funeral services and burial with military honors and Police honors will be held at the convenience of the family.
