John Joseph Kampartas, Jr.

Winsted:  John Joseph Kampartas, Jr. 77, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, surrounded by his family.  He was the husband of Clare (Hicks) Kampartas.  Born in Winsted, September 2, 1945, he was the son of the late John J. and Virginia (Matinas) Kampartas and had lived here all of his life.  John had attended local schools and was a graduate of Oliver Wolcott Tech, class of 1964.  He was retired from the Winchester Public Works Dept. where he worked for 31 years.  John loved hunting, fishing, cooking parties, BBQ’s, loved listening to country music, stock car racing, NASCAR, the demolition derby in Agawam, MA, at demolition park.  He was a member of the Elks Lodge #844 in Winsted, the Knights of Columbus, the Venetia Club of Torrington where he was treasurer for 14 years, the Redmen, the Garibaldi and past president of the Winsted Raggies and an honorary member of the Winsted Fire Department Cascade Engine #4. In addition to his loving wife of 56 years, John is survived by two sons, John J. Kampartas, III of Torrington and James E. Kampartas of Winsted; two grandchildren, Michael J. Kampartas and Kira C.
