Rochester, NY: Janice (Jan) T. Kelemen, 79, formerly of Winsted, CT, passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2021, in Rochester, following a short illness. Born in Winsted, she was the daughter of the late Paul L. and Mary (Schwarm) Turgeon. She had spent her adolescent years in Winsted, attended school, St. Anthony and graduated from The Gilbert School here before moving to Rochester, and graduating from Rochester Institute of Technology with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and Information Technology. After which she was employed by McCurdy & Company, in Rochester for 25 years as trainee, assistant and then buyer of women's and children's merchandise. She traveled frequently to NYC, California and London for the company. After McCurdy & Co. she worked for Xerox Corp. in Rochester for 13 years, retiring in 2005. She was also active in community service as a member of Seneca Zoological Society, Rochester Community Playhouse and the League of Women Voters, Rochester Chamber of Commerce (Women's Council), serving as: Vice President (1971), President (1972, Junior Achivement of Rochester (Charter Member). Recipient, American Bicentennial Research Institute Award, 1976, selected, on Who's Who of American Women 8th Edition 1974-1975, Recipient, Outstanding Young Women of America Award, 1972. Enjoyed traveling thru out the US, London, Mexico, Austria, Yugoslavia, Hungary and Canada. She enjoyed the flea markets, animals, gardening, browsing the internet and gaming. Her survivors include a brother, Donald R. Turgeon of Franklin Square, NY, a sister, Pauline (Turgeon) Nero of Winsted and a niece, Diana Connole Perault of Burlington, NC. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a brother, Paul J. Turgeon. Funeral services will be held at the Maloney Funeral Home 55 Walnut Street Winsted, on Friday, June 11, 2021 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Forest View Cemetery in Winsted. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church, 31 Oak Street, Winsted or Rochester Animal Services 184 Verona Street, Rochester, NY 14608.
