Middletown, CT: Emilie Joan Capitanio 77, passed away on Friday, December 30, 2022 at Middlesex Healthcare Center, following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Leo R. Capitanio who died in 2013. Born in North Canaan, CT, January 24, 1945, she was the daughter of the late, Tracy and Luella (Hart) Blakely, Joan had spent most of her life in northwest, CT, growing up, working and raising her family. She was both a Boy & Girl Scout leader, Sr. Farm Baseball coach, President of the Winsted Lions Club, member of the Elks Club #844, and was a trustee at the Winsted United Methodist Church. She loved her grand-kids, shopping, and traveling to Gettysburg and Valley Forge. Joan loved the history of the Revolutionary and Civil wars. She also enjoyed watching the Law and Order TV series as well as listening to Country Gospel Music. Her survivors include her three children, Michael Capitanio of Torrington, Toby (Josephine) Capitanio, and Terri (Andrea) Capitanio-Buggs all of Bristol, followed by 3 grandchildren, Brittney and Taylor Capitanio and Jayna Roy. Joan is also survived by her step-daughter, Hattie (Mark) Werline of Indiana, and her children Allen and Ashley Pumphrey. Joan also has 2 great grandchildren, and several step grand-children and step great grand-children. Calling hours for Joan will be at Maloney Funeral Home (55 Walnut Street, Winsted, CT 06098) on Saturday, January 21, 2023 from 1:00-3:00, followed by the service at 3:30 with the Rev. Alethea Johnson-Cole officiating. Memorial donations may be made to: Alzheimer's Association of CT. 2075 Sials Deane Hwy. Rocky Hill, CT 06067. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
