Winsted: Elsa Mae Hitchcock, 79, died suddenly on Sunday, November 18, 2018, at Hartford Hospital. She was the wife of Ralph L. Hitchcock. Born in Winsted, August 3, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Dorothy (Clark) and Joseph J. Clark, II. Elsa had spent her early years in Tolland, MA, before moving to Winsted after her marriage. Prior to her retirement, she had worked as a paralegal for various attorneys in the Torrington/Winsted area. She was a graduate of The Gilbert School and attended the Grace School of Nursing in New Haven. She loved her gardens, both flowers and vegetables, playing the piano, cooking family dinners at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Elsa also enjoyed crocheting and outings with the family to Rhode Island at the Burlingame campgrounds and later going to Myrtle Beach, SC. Later in life it was line dancing at the McCarthy Senior Center and spending time with the grandsons. In addition to her loving husband of 60 years, she is survived by her sons, Michael Hitchcock of Naugatuck and Brett Hitchcock of Winsted; a brother, Joseph J. Clark III (Susan) of Tolland, MA; a sister, Cassandra Messenger (Merlin) of Barkhamsted and two grandsons, Jordan and Taylor Hitchcock. Elsa also leaves a granddaughter Diana Green, and daughter-in-law Marilyn Westerfield, both of Naugatuck. Funeral services Will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at 11:00 AM, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Pine Meadow, with the Rev. Sandra Cosman officiating. Burial will follow in Forest View Cemetery in Winsted. There are no calling hours.
