Dorothy Joan LeGeyt

At 89 years of age, found peace on October 21, 2020 at Avon Health Center. The daughter of Theodore and Matilda Wieczorek, she grew up in New Britain, CT, attended Teacher’s College; and, became a teacher. She married William LeGeyt, Sr and lived in Barkhamsted. She worked in the Selectman’s office and became an Assessor. She also worked in the Canton Assessor’s office. She was on the Winsted Health Center board and the Barkhamsted Board of Education. She supported the Agricultural Ed program at Regional District #7. She was an avid genealogist for her family and the LeGeyt family. She loved organic gardening, watching the birds, and reading autobiographies. She was a pioneer for natural foods; and, a “regular” customer at Passiflora. She enjoyed sharing her knowledge of health and supplements. She leaves a daughter Teresa, who shared her mother’s passion and commitment for organic foods, health, and holistic therapies; and, is grateful for the memories. She leaves a son William Jr, daughter-in-law Gayle, and granddaughter Barbara for whom she babysat and had a special bond. Many thanks for the support, comfort, and excellence of McLean Hospice. Many thanks to the dedicated, supportive, compassionate employees at Avon Health Center including arranging visits during this pandemic. Burial will be private at the Barkhamsted Center Cemetery.
