Barkhamsted: Dana A. Ellis, 72, passed away Friday, May 22, 2020 after a short illness in the same home where he was raised. He had been surrounded and cared for with love by his family. He was the loving husband of Elizabeth R. (Paul) Ellis for 49 years. Born in Winsted, July 29, 1947, he was the son of the late Earl and Carol (Cleveland) Ellis and had resided in Barkhamsted most of his life. Prior to retirement, he was a dedicated employee of O&G industries as an rock drill operator for 53 years. He had a deep love for animals including his horse, Smokey and his dogs, Little Buck then Willow. For years he enjoyed helping his brother Gordon work and tend to his beautiful draft horses. He would join his friends and colleagues at the Riverton General Store in the mornings to sort out the problems of the world. He found pleasure in NASCAR racing, his Dallas Cowboys, and country music. In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughter, Kerri Carroll (Steve) of Avon, four grandchildren, Jacob, Noah, Aurora and Annalise, his sister Sue Puhalski (Thomas) of Barkhamsted, plus in-laws Chet Zebrowski, Richard (Pia) Paul, Charles (Sabine) Paul, Barbara (Paul) Manning, plus beloved nieces and nephews, good neighbors and many, many friends. He also held close to his heart, his godsons Willi and Henry Schmidt and Brian Zebrowski. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased his brothers, Gordon, Douglas, and Brian Ellis, his sister, Joan Zebrowski, and his sister-in-law, Geneva Ellis. Private burial services will be in Center Cemetery, Winsted. A celebration of his life will be held at the Riverton Congregational Church at a date to be announced.
