Catherine C. Johnson

Winsted, CT:  Catherine C. Johnson, 80, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington, following a lengthy illness.  She was the wife of the late Alfred Johnson, Sr., who died in 2011.  Born in Winsted, August 21, 1941, she was a daughter of the late, Robert Young, Sr. and Catherine C. (Heacox) Young and had lived in Winsted all of her life.  During her working career, she had worked for Dano Electric for several years and later retired from Stop & Shop as a deli clerk after 20 years of service.  Catherine enjoyed having everyone over for family gatherings.  She loved reading, cooking, camping, cruising and history.  She also did a trip to Ireland and London with her daughter and granddaughter Hillary.  She enjoyed canning fruits and vegetables from her husband's garden and just spending time with her children, grandchildren and great granddaughter, 9-5 card games were played for hours.  She and her husband drove across the country, loved watching horse racing especially the Kentucky Derby and enjoyed listening to country music and watching her granddaughter irish step dance.  Her survivors include two sons, Alfred (Jodi) Johnson, Jr. of Pelham, NH and Darrin (Michelle) Johnson of Torrington; a daughter, Tammi (Mark) Jacob of Speculator, NY; a sister, Elaine Young of Castleton, NY and seven grandchildren, Christopher, Hillary, Zachary, Nicholas, David,  Sydney and Sophia; one great granddaughter, Avery and several nieces and nephews.  In additions to her loving husband and parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Robert Young and two sisters, Barbara Young and Joanne Wyatt.  Funeral services and wake will be held on Friday, January 28, 2022, from 1-3 o'clock PM with the funeral service at 2:00 PM.  Maloney Funeral Home, 55 Walnut Street, Winsted,  is in charge of arrangements. Graveside services will be held at Forest View Cemetery  on May 7, 2022 at 10:45 am.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 825 Brook Street, Rocky Hill, CT 06067 or to the Wounded Warrior Project, P. O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
