Winsted: Mildred A. Kemp, 96, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2019, at Manchester Manor in Manchester, CT, following a long illness. She was the wife of the late John F. Kemp who died in 1999. Born in Rockville, CT, February 1, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Helen (Dombrowski) Gronski and had lived in Winsted for most of her life. Prior to her retirement, she had worked as a cook and baker in the school lunch program for the Town of Winchester. Mildred also enjoyed bird watching, planting her flower garden and watching old movies. She also loved spending time with her family, especially with her granddaughter. She had beautiful penmanship and enjoyed writing letters to friends and family, long before the computer take over. Her survivors include her son Richard Kemp of Colebrook, her daughter Nancy Zepke and husband Bruce of Glastonbury and granddaughter Julie Krug & husband Ken of Hartsdale, NY and several nieces. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Helen Willis and Alice Gronski; three brothers, Benjamin, Chester and Fred Gronski. The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the staff at Manchester Manor for their compassionate care during Mildred's stay there. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 6, 2019, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Church in Winsted. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
