Welcome to the memorial page for

Marion Laura Kelley

December 1, 1938 ~ July 9, 2017 (age 78) 78 Years Old

Marion L. Kelley, 78, of Winsted, CT, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July, 9, 2017 with her eldest son Michael and her long-time aide Carol Elliott of Torrington, CT by her side at the time of her death.  She was the beloved wife of Harold E. Kelley, Jr. for 60 years.

Marion was born on December 1, 1938 in Winsted, CT, the daughter of the late Chester Kucineski and Stephanie (Obiedzinski) Kucineski.  She was a graduate of St. Anthony’s School and The Gilbert School.

Marion had a long career with several positions in local financial institutions, including Connecticut Bank and Trust, Moore and Alvord, and Northwest Community Bank.  She also worked as a babysitter and as a caregiver and house cleaner for the elderly. She was a devout, life-long member of the St. Joseph Parish in Winsted, volunteered in the parish office and at St. Anthony’s School for many years, and served as Den Mother for Cub Scout Pack 17.

Marion spent her life caring for family members, beginning with her siblings at a young age, progressing to her husband and sons, and then to her parents and uncle. She was a devoted wife and mother who constantly put the needs of family and friends ahead of her own.

As a young girl, Marion was a skilled pianist who eschewed professional performing in favor of playing the instrument for pleasure.  She was a superb roller and ice skater, and possibly the world’s most devoted Roy Rogers fan.  One of the biggest thrills of her life was actually meeting Roy Rogers at his museum in Victorville, CA.  Marion loved camping and traveling by car across the United States, visiting her sons, feeding marshmallows to wild bears, going for evening walks, and most recently, horseback riding.  She was an expert in knitting, crocheting, and needlepoint, was an excellent cook and rigorously trained her sons in the domestic arts.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her four sons, Dr. Michael S. Kelley and Dr. Pranoti M. Asher in Annandale, VA, Jonathan S. Kelley and Tana McClanahan in Alberton, MT, Jeffrey S. Kelley and Ann Marie Harbor in Torrington, CT, and Darryl P. Kelley in Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren Dana Kelley in Portland, OR, Shelby Kelley in Boston, MA, Tia Quenneville in Spartanburg, SC, USMC Sgt. Darryl Lehman II in Jacksonville, NC and Cullan Kelley in Annandale, VA; great grandson Trey Lehman Jacksonville, NC; siblings Ronald Kucineski and Diane Higgins in Florida, Sabrina Tidd in Connecticut; and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
