Winsted: Joseph A. Yanavich, Sr., 80, died on Sunday, October 21, 2018, after a long battle with cancer, with his family at his side. He was born on August 7, 1938 in Waterbury, CT, son of the late Joseph and Helen (Armonavich) Yanavich and spent most of his life in the Oakville area before moving to Winsted 13 years ago. Prior to his retirement, he had been a Tool & Die maker at Pratt & Whitney and most recently, retired as a quality control engineer for U. S. Surgical. He was an avid fisherman and spent many years lake fishing on his boat and clamming in the salt bays of RI. He enjoyed RV traveling and camping in RI and FL, making good memories with his wife, family and friends. He was the loving husband of Josephine (Mikulski) Yanavich for 54 years; father of Joseph Yanavich and Michele Cyr; grandfather of Shane, Nathan, Shauna, Ariana, Dylan, Alexa, Joseph, Abigail, Zachary, Caleb & Ava; brother to Josephine Popikas of Old Saybrook and Helene Pollard of Alabama. He was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Doyle. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 27, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Church in Winsted. Burial will be private. Friends may call at the Maloney Funeral Home 55 Walnut Street, Winsted, on Friday, October 26, from 4-7 PM.
