Donald Fox Obituary

Winsted:  Donald "Foxie" Fox, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2018.  He was 90 years old.  He was born August 23, 1927, in Winsted, where he lived all of his life.  He served in the U.S. Army in Germany at the end of World War II.  He was an inspiration to many around town for his dedication to fitness and was a runner since the 1960's. He was in fact still walking, up until a few weeks before his death.  He spent most of his working years at the US Post Office after the many factories around Winsted closed.  In his "retirement", he delivered flowers for Smith Greenhouses, cared for his grandchildren, and later for his wife.  He liked biking and walking in Winsted , spending time traveling at Cape Cod, enjoyed country and patriotic music, watching old movies and was very knowledgeable  about them.  Foxie also enjoyed talking politics.   He was generous and quietly supported numerous organizations, particularly during the holidays.  He was a longtime member of the YMCA.  Foxie will be missed by all and his spirit will live on through all the people he touched. Foxie was preceded in death by his wife Helen "Shorty" Fox in 2011, one brother Albert Fox, three sisters Vivian Wood, Cora Mendez and Doris Pittman.   He is survived by three daughters, Laurie and her husband Blair Pessemier of Rocca Malatina, Italy, Teresa and her husband Leverett Cooper and their sons, Marshall and Henry of Harwinton, CT, and Nancy and her husband, Raymond Schaller and their daughter Samantha and son, Michael of Torrington, CT.  He is also survived by two sisters, Beverly Maxwell and Rita Swanson, numerous nieces, nephews and sisters in law. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, May 26, 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Church in Winsted.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family.  Friends may call at the Maloney Funeral Home 55 Walnut Street, Winsted, on Friday, May 25, from 4-6 PM.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the Alzheimer's Association.  To leave an online condolence, please visit www.maloneyfuneral.com.
