Dawn L. Zierzow

Dawn L. Zierzow, 67, of Barkhamsted, Ct, passed away January 2 at John Dempsey Hospital with her family at her side.  She was born in Winsted, March 6, 1951, and was the only child of the late William and Frances Lawrence.  Dawn grew up in Winsted and attended local schools, graduating from Gilbert High School in 1969.  She then earned an Associates degree from Birarwood College in the Executive Business Secretarial Program.  After graduating she worked at Dun and Bradstreet, Northwest Community Bank, and most recently for the Winsted Public Schools as a secretary in the Special Education Department. Through mutual friends she met her high school sweetheart Charles S. Zierzow.  They married in 1971 and made their home first in Winsted before settling in Barkhamsted.  She is survived by their child, Tabitha Maccalous (married to James Maccalous of Harwinton).  Dawn held a special place in her heart for grandchildren, Allison and Owen Maccalous and was a loving Aunt to two nieces, Rachel Zierzow and Virginia Drap.  Prior to becoming  ill Dawn loved taking Ballroom dancing lessons with her husband, Charles. They enjoyed many cruises as well as family trips to numerous U.S. destinations including Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, San Francisco, and Disney World to name only a few.   Calling hours will be Wednesday, January 9, from 3-6 pm, at Maloney Funeral Home, 55 Walnut Street, Winsted, Ct.  A memorial service will be celebrated the next morning, Thursday, January 10 at 10 am at the Winsted United Methodist Church, 630 Main St., Winsted, Ct.  Please join the family for coffee and pastry at the church after the service.  Donations to the American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association are greatly appreciated.  www.aarda.org
