Arthur R. Sampson

Winsted:  Arthur R. Sampson, 86, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2019, at Cherry Brook Health Care Center in Canton, following the diagnosis of a brain tumor in August.  He is survived by his wife Lillian (Turgeon) Sampson.  Born in Madison, Maine, April 13, 1933, he was the son of the late Charles and Margaret (Healy) Sampson and had moved to Winsted, Connecticut as a young child.  He had attended local schools and was a graduate of The Gilbert School, class of 1952.  He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, worked for several years for the State of Connecticut highway department and retired from the Maintenance Department with the Winchester Public Schools after 27 years of service. He was a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge #844, the Winsted Fire Department Aerial Ladder Company and the Winsted Raggies.  "Artie" loved fishing, reading books, had a fascination with clocks, both collecting and repairing, enjoyed Wildwood, NJ and the many years vacationing there along with the casinos in Connecticut and the Showboat in Atlantic City.  In addition to his wife of 50 years, he is survived by his son, Darrick G. Sampson of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China; his brother, Charles Sampson and his wife, Jean of Knoxville, TN; and two sisters, Margaret Carcano of Torrington, Virginia Romano of Winsted and his many nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, at 11:00 AM, December 10, 2019, at Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Winsted.  Friends may call at the Maloney Funeral Home, 55 Walnut Street, Winsted, from 9:00 AM, until the time we leave for mass.  Burial will be in St. Joseph New Cemetery in Winsted, Memorial contributions may be made to the Foothills Visiting Nurse & Home Care at 32 Union Street, Winsted, CT 06098.
