Robert H. Poley, Sr.

Winsted:  Robert “Bob” Poley, 69 of Winsted passed away Tues. September 22, 2015, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.  Robert was born in Torrington on April 15, 1946.  He is predeceased by his parents Arthur Emile Poley Sr., Jean LeJeune Poley of Winchester, and sister Brenda Poley Racine of Winsted.  Robert is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years Charlotte “Sherry” Poley, his four children, Robert H. Poley Jr. (and wife Sharon) Shellie Poley (and husband Michael Matthews) Shannon Hyatt (and husband Robert) Robin Blay (and husband Eric), Eight Grandchildren: Devin and Kyle Matthews; Austin, Parker and Carson Hyatt; Dakota, Connor and Mason Blay.  He is also survived by two Brothers Arthur E. Poley Jr. Of Barkhamsted and Gene “Barry” Poley of Torrington and several nieces and nephews.
Robert served in the U.S. Army from 1965 - 1971.  He graduated from Kaynor Technical School in 1974, where he studied plumbing and steam fitting.  Before retiring, he worked at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson NY.  He was also a member of the Winsted Volunteer Fire Department.
Bob deeply loved his family.  He was a wonderful father who never missed a sporting event, school concert or any activity his children were involved in.  He loved coaching baseball and being the Boy Scout leader.  He was a great sport when having to dress up like Disney Characters in the local Pet Parades.   Second to his family his greatest love was fly-fishing in the Farmington River. He also enjoyed bird watching and at times bear watching when they got to his feeders.   Bob had a great sense of humor and was known to many as a second father.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 2, at 1:00 PM at the Maloney Funeral Home 55 Walnut Street.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the time of the service.  Burial will be in St. Joseph new Cemetery with full military honors.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Foothills VNA, 32 Union Street, Winsted.  To leave an online condolence, please visit www.maloneyfuneral.com.
