Richard T. Bedell

Winsted:  Richard Tredwell Bedell (Dick), 82, died peacefully at home, on Wednesday, November 9,, 2016.   Born in Wantaugh, Long Island, NY, December 15, 1933, he was the son of the late Weldon and Ida Rose (Suarez) Bedell.  With assistance from a diversity of learning opportunities, Dick persued a variety of career choices, first in the military, playing trumpet in the U.S. Army Band during and following the Korean conflict.  Later other endeavors such as watch-making, audiology and a string of retail sales settings that attracted him.   From mid-life until recent times over a span of 39 years, Dick produced, owned and operated Health Insurance Services, a health insurance agency which handled the needs from the greater Hartford area and Litchfield County.  A caring man, passionate about his work and always eager to help, Dick proved to be indispensable during the most stressful of life situations. He will be greatly missed by clients, associates, and family members.  Dick leaves his wife, Patricia Roach Bedell of Winsted; son, Thomas Bedell  (Jennifer) of Norwich; step sons, John Sansone (Maureen) and Peter Sansone of Burlington; step daughters, Lisa Smith of Unionville, Elizabeth Roache (Michael) of Winsted and Jessica Remmey of Torrington; sisters, Barbara Lee (Daniel) of Texas, Jean Allen (Harold), Ruth Moon (Richard) of MA; brother. Joel Bedell (Ann) of NH; 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, at 11:00 AM at the Maloney Funeral Home 55 Walnut Street, Winsted.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 PM.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.  To leave an online condolence, please visit www.maloneyfuneral.com.
