Noel J. Guerard

Noel J. Guerard, of Torrington, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2017 after a long illness.  Noel was married to Shirley M. Nanni on June 11, 1949; they were married 68 wonderful years.

Noel was born in Bantam, Connecticut on December 19, 1927. He graduated from Litchfield High School and immediately enlisted in the United States Navy. He was a veteran of World War II.

Noel held numerous positions in his lifetime.  He was a Constable, Police Officer, and US Postal Employee in Winsted, Connecticut, a Manager for John Hancock Insurance where he was awarded many accolades.  He was also a business owner and operator of; the Dairy Mart, the Fireside Restaurant, Guerard’s Grocery, and Guerard’s Spirit Shoppe, all in Winsted, from which he retired to spend winters in Naples, Florida with his wife, Shirley. He was also actively involved in the Rotary Club, Knights of Columbus, and Sullivan and Harwinton Senior Centers.

Noel is survived by his spouse Shirley M. Guerard of Torrington, Connecticut; grandchildren Erika Carter of Torrington, Connecticut and Aaron and Maureen Fritz of North Hampton, New Hampshire; great-grandchildren Paige Carter and Oscar Fritz, many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins, and other family and friends.  Noel’s family was one of his greatest joys and achievements.

Noel is predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Catherine (LeBlanc) Guerard, a brother Norman Guerard, a son, James J. Guerard, a daughter Catherine Guerard Fritz.

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Saint Joseph’s Church, Winsted.  Burial with Military Honors will be in the family plot at St. Joseph Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Maloney Funeral Home, 55 Walnut St., is in charge of arrangements. 

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to St. Jude’s Research Organization at 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
