Michael Leon Podhajecki

Winsted:  Major Michael Leon Podhajecki, USAF Ret., died suddenly at his home, of natural causes, on Saturday, July 25, 2015.  Born on November 22, 1943, in Saratoga Springs, NY, he was the son of the late Stanley S. and Janet E. Podhajecki.  Michael graduated from The Gilbert School, class of 1962 then from UConn in Storrs, where he was enrolled in the Air Force ROTC Program, graduating in 1966, with a BS degree in electrical engineering.  Upon graduation, Michael entered the Air Force having the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, serving both abroad and here in the U.S. until his retirement in 1986 with the rank of Major.  Upon retirement, Michael opened, owned and operated the Enroute Copying. Printing and Shipping Company in Bellevue, NE until returning to Winsted in 2002.  Michael is survived by a daughter, Dawn Arrants and her husband Russ of Bellevue, NE; two sisters, Frances Button and her husband Luke of New Hartford and Leona Lejeune and her husband Barry of Winchester Center; two brothers, Stanley Podhajecki and his wife Janet of Alamogordo, NM and Stephen Podhajecki and his wife Beth of Norfolk, CT; several nieces & nephews and grand nieces & grand nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a nephew, Gus A. Wadsworth.  Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 30, 11:30 AM at St. Joseph Church.  Burial will follow in Forest View Cemetery with full military honors.  Friends may call at the Maloney Funeral Home 55 Walnut Street from 9-11AM prior to mass.  Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Disabled American Veterans at dav.org or to a charity of the donor's choice.  To leave an online condolence, please visit www.maloneyfuneral.com.
