John F. Whalen

Winsted:  John F. Whalen, 57, passed away at Hartford Hospital on Sunday, December 25, 2016, following a brief illness.  He was the husband of the late Carol Lee (Chausse) Whalen who died in 2002.  Born in Torrington, August 26, 1959, he was the son of the late Franklin and Bertha (Krieger) Whalen and had lived in this area all of his life.  Prior to his retirement, he had worked in the Litchfield Public School system in the Maintenance Dept. for 41 years.  He had also been a certified EMT for 20 years, a volunteer with the Winsted EMT's for over 30 years and was a member of the Laurel Ridge Camping Area in Otis, MA for over 35 years.  His survivors include his children, John Whalen, Jr and Catherine Whalen; two sisters, Carol Rogers and Coral Ozerhoski all of Torrington, two grandchildren, Hannah and Paul IV and his girl friend Patti Keefe.  Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at the Maloney Funeral Home, 55 Walnut Street, Winsted, 5-8 PM.  Services will be held at 8 PM, at the end of calling hours.  Burial will be in Forest View Cemetery at the convenience of the family in the spring.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Winsted Area Ambulance Assoc., P.O.
