Guild Root Odell, 75, passed away early Tuesday morning, December 11, 2018 in his home surrounded by family and friends. Guild “Gil” was born in Torrington, Connecticut on February 28, 1943 to the late Leo Edward Odell and Mabel Blake. Gil was raised and lived in Falls Village for 42 years before residing in Colebrook, Connecticut. He worked as a Maintenance Supervisor for TRW and then SKF in Winsted, Connecticut for 42 years until his retirement. After he retired from SKF, Gil traveled several times a year, hunting, enjoying the islands and going cross-country with friends. He is survived by his former wife, Sandra Reid Odell of Falls Village; his son, Daniel Odell of Falls Village and two daughters, Dawn Odell Lemon and her husband Gary Lemon of Sandisfield, MA and Hillary Wildey of Brooklyn, New York; his grandchildren Jackson Colt Odell, Ethan Cooper Lemon and Olivia Ann Lemon; a sister Edna Solesky and her husband Ray Solesky of East Granby CT; a niece Julie Mattil and husband Ken Mattil of East Granby CT; and many, many dear Friends. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by an Aunt and Uncle who raised him; Ida and Urn Blake; a brother Francis Edward Odell and a sister Laura Odell Clinton. Gil lived life to the absolute fullest. He will be remembered most for his incredible work ethics, spending time with his wide circle of friends, hunting, camping and traveling. He leaves a legacy of good times, dignity, love and generosity. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Gil’s honor may be made to the Canaan VFW or Canaan Rod and Gun Club. There will be no calling hours or funeral. A Celebration of His Life will be Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 3:00 PM at the Canaan VFW Post #6851 in Canaan, Connecticut.
