Evelyn Tiffany Hawley

Winsted:  Evelyn Tiffany Moore Hawley, 95, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2015, at her home surrounded by her loving family.  She was the wife of the late Edward Pratt Hawley who died in 1994.  Born in Winsted, October 11, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Frederick North and Martha (Tiffany) Moore and had lived here most of her life.  She attended local schools and was a graduate of The Gilbert School, Class of 1937. She received her Bachelor degree from UConn and her Master from the University of Hartford. She taught for 25 years in the Winsted school system and is still remembered by many of her former students.   Evelyn was a member of the Winsted United Methodist Church where in years past she sang in the choir and was a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Barkhamsted Senior Center, a Wednesday morning senior bowling group, and could often be seen enjoying time at Cackleberries with friends and family. After her retirement, for 15 years, she could be found at the Laurel Hills Healthcare Center every Monday to play piano for the residents’ sing-a-long. Evie was always up for card or board games, a road trip to visit family or friends, musical theater, or anything musical. Throughout her life, devotion to children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family always came first, tempered with a dose of good humor.  She leaves a legacy of music, love, and service to her family and community.  Her survivors include her children, one son, Norman E. Hawley (Lynn)of West Hartland; five daughters, Carolyn H. Day (William) of Barkhamsted, Sunny D. Clark of  Payson, AZ, Barbara A. Hawley of Winsted, Marion H. Zirolli (Wayne) of Litchfield, and Janet L. Sosnicki (Michael) of Winsted with whom she lived; 16 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Gail H. Zygmont and a grandson, Jeremy S. Clark.  A Memorial service in celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the Winsted United Methodist Church with the Rev.
