Edward I. Thiery

January 12, 1934 ~ June 23, 2016 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Torrington:  Edward I. Thiery passed away peacefully on June 23, 2016.  He was born on January 12, 1934, in Winsted, CT, the son of the late Irving E. and Lucienne (Tardiff) Thiery.  He attended St. Anthony School and the Gilbert School, entering the US Army his senior year.  When he returned from duty, he attended and graduated from Ward's School of Electronics taking a position with Bell Laboratories in New York.  Returning home he went to work for Pratt & Whitney and retired from there in 1991.  He worked at Pratt & Whitney as an engineer and helped to develop fuel cells for which he was awarded a patent.  He enjoyed the outdoors all of his life, fishing, hunting and trapping, but his garden was his pride and joy in his retirement years.  He was predeceased by his sisters, Joan (William) Jones and Patricia Lavieri, and is survived by his sisters, Barbara (James) Sullivan, of Colebrook, and Victoria (Roger) Atkins, of Winsted.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews that he thought of and treated as his children since he had never married.  The family would like to thank Brookdale in Torrington for their kindness and care, Foothills Visiting Nurse Hospice Care and especially his direct caregivers, Terry and Lovis, who went above and beyond their job description in caring for him.    In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors or the USO, two organizations that he felt deeply about and contributed to all of his life. Services will be at the convenience of the family.  To leave an online condolence, please visit www.maloneyfuneral.com.
