Doris B. St. Onge

Winsted:  Doris B. St. Onge of Winsted, Connecticut passed away peacefully at home on August 14.  Born on November 11, 1927 in Stamford, Connecticut, Doris was the second daughter of Doris K. Robinson and John S. Burwell of Stamford and Winsted.  Her family moved to Winsted permanently in the late 1930s and her father ran the family lumber business, J.C. Burwell and Co., until his death in 1974.  She graduated as salutatorian from The Gilbert School in Winsted in 1945 and from Smith College in 1949.  
She worked as a reporter for the Torrington Register until she married Walter J. St. Onge Jr. on June 26, 1954.  They lived in Winsted since that time.  She served on the Winchester Board of Education, the Winchester Ethics Commission, and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.  She volunteered for many years as the publicist for the Winsted office of the American Red Cross and was a faithful blood donor having donated over 13 gallons herself.
She and Walter were members of the Norfolk Curling Club for many years and she was a member of the women's championship team that won the first Ladies All-American event in 1966. She loved Cape Cod, the Red Sox, reading, crossword puzzles, numerous pets over the years, and, most of all, spending time with her family.
Doris is survived by her husband, Walter, their four children, Walter J. St. Onge III (Rosemary) of Bedford, Massachusetts, Cynthia Serafini (John) of Winsted, Susan DuBois (Craig) of Torrington and Kathleen Chiappetta (Tony) of Toronto, Canada, and by her 7 grandchildren,  Caroline, Michaela and James St. Onge, Katie and Sam Serafini, Ali DuBois, and Vivian Chiappetta.  She is also survived by her three younger sisters, Jayne Gustafson, Kay Stafford and Juliet King, and her sister-in-law Roberta Burwell.  She was predeceased by her sister Anne Soldan and brother Jack Burwell.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 10:30 AM from the Maloney Funeral Home 55 Walnut Street, to St. Joseph Church for the funeral liturgy at 11:00 AM.  Burial will be at a later date.  Calling hours are at the funeral home on Monday, 5-8 PM.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, 209 Farmington Avenue, Farmington, CT 06032.  To leave an online condolence, please visit www.maloneyfuneral.com.
