David Ernest BattistoniSeptember 6, 1946 ~ June 19, 2017 (age 70)
West Cornwall, CT: David E. Battistoni, 70, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2017. Born in Torrington, September 6, 1946, he was the only son of Ernest and Frances (Strobak) Battistoni. He grew up in Winsted and attended St. Anthony School, The Gilbert School, Northwest CT Community College and UCONN.
David served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. His career path focused on municipal government serving the Town of Winchester for fifteen years both as Assessor and Town Manager. He relocated to Windsor, VT where he was employed as Town Manager for six years. He was active in the community where he served as President of the Windsor Rotary Club and instrumental in the development of a Business Park there which has since become one of the the most visited attractions in Vermont. He was then recruited to serve as President/CEO of the Northwest Connecticut Chamber of Commerce. He helped raise the profile of that organization as membership and expansion of programs increased. David was President of the Connecticut Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives, a member of the Torrington-Winsted Rotary Club, member of the Board of Directors for LARC and the Warner Theater. He resumed his career as Town Manager and in 2012, retired from the Town of Barre, MA.
In addition to his Mother of Winsted, he is survived by his loving wife and best friend Maureen Donahue; daughter, Lois (Jim) Poirot of Winsted; sons, Paul Battistoni (Jessica) of East Hartland and Daniel Battistoni (Sandi) of Hamden; sisters, Ann (Ed) Centrella of West Bloomfield, MI and Marie (Jim) Boutin of Winsted; step-daughters, Sarah Brown of Providence, RI, Meghan Brown of Boston, MA, former brother-in-law, Daniel O'Meara, and his faithful Golden Retriever, Marni. He was predeceased by his father and youngest sister, Jean Battistoni O'Meara.
David's legacy lives on through the lives of his most cherished gifts, grandchildren, Brandon and Abigayle Poirot and Jake, Dylan and Caleb Battistoni. He is also survived by five beautiful nieces, many life long friends and Marine buddies.
The Maloney Funeral Home 55 Walnut Street, Winsted, is in charge of arrangements. Calling hours are Thursday, June 29, 2-4 & 6-8 PM. A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Joseph Church in Winsted on Friday at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery with full military honors.
