Catherine D. Kloppenburg

August 9, 1934 ~ December 8, 2016 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Catherine Kloppenburg, aged 82, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 8, 2016 surrounded by her loving and devoted family at her home in New Hartford, Connecticut.  Cathy was born August 9, 1934 in White Plains, New York, to James and Imelda (McDonald) Smyth.  She attended Westchester Community College and married William (Bill) Kloppenburg in 1958. They lived in Irvington and Centereach, New York before moving to New Hartford, CT, where they resided for the past 33 years.  Cathy had a strong faith in Jesus, a love for her family and friends, and a beautiful and gentle spirit.  Though she had many jobs throughout her life, Cathy’s greatest joy came from being a loving mother and nana.  For her family, her love was selfless, unconditional and never in doubt. She had a beautiful smile and the sparkle in her eyes brightened the world and lifted the hearts of friends and strangers alike.  Her home was always open and she had a special gift for making people feel welcome there.  So many people have been blessed with fond memories of time spent with Cathy, especially at her favorite places; West Hill Pond in New Hartford and the family cabin in Upstate New York. Cathy is survived by her loving husband, Bill; her daughter Susan Whitbeck and her husband, Rich, of New Hartford, CT; her son William Kloppenburg, Jr. and his wife, Lauriann, of Vero Beach, FL; her daughter Barbara Kloppenburg of Southington, CT; her daughter Nancy Ulrich and her husband, Paul, of Arlington, MA; and her daughter Linda Gerosa and her husband, Ray, of Avon, CT; her seven cherished grandchildren, Alexandra, Jessica, Brennan, Amanda, Peter, Faith and Hope; and her loving siblings, Ann Myllek of Valhalla, NY and John Smyth of Stamford, CT. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 from 6 to 9 PM at Maloney Funeral Home, 55 Walnut Street, Winsted, CT. A celebration of Cathy's life will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 12:30 PM at Valley Community Baptist Church, 590 West Avon Road, Avon, CT, with a luncheon to follow in the fellowship hall.  The family would like to thank Cathy’s caregiver, Julianna Byrouthy, for the loving care and friendship she gave her in the last two and a half years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Cathy’s memory to Samaritan’s Purse (www.samaritanspurse.org). To leave an online condolence, Please visit www.maloneyfuneral.com.
